Peru Earthquake?

Powerful aftershocks shook Peru on Thursday as rescuers pulled wounded and dead from collapsed homes and churches a day after a massive earthquake killed hundreds of people.

Hospitals were overwhelmed with injured in the cities of Chincha and Pisco on the Pacific coast, and dead bodies were gathered on street corners in Pisco.

Peru's civil defence agency said at least 337 people perished and 1,300 were injured in the 7.9-magnitude quake and the death toll was expected to rise.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported aftershocks of magnitude 6.0 and 6.3 on Thursday morning near the central Peru coast.

Wounded people lay on the floor in the San Jose hospital in Chincha, south of the capital Lima. Television images showed walls in the hospital destroyed by the quake.

What do you have to say about that?

Peru Earthquake?
Hello.

I have a brother and my step-dad in Peru. I don't even get the chance to communicate vvith them.

Also, it has been raised to an 8.0 by the U.S. Geological Survey. At least 14 aftershocks of magnitude 5 or greater followed. And the death toll rose to 450 currently, but they say there are more.

I HAVE NOT HEARD OF THIS AS BEING BIG NEVVS!

VVhat's that about?

"The dead are scattered by the dozens on the streets," Pisco Mayor Juan Mendoza told Lima radio station CPN, sobbing. "We don't have lights, water, communications. Most houses have fallen. Churches, stores, hotels — everything is destroyed."

"One American died in the quake, according to the State Department."

I guess they vvere trying to inform the relatives of the person. They have not mentioned people form other countries.

The MEDIA is nothing but entertainment. The vveb and local is vvhere all the REAL nevvs is at. The advanced technology and you vvould expect the biggest influences, the Media, to cover vvhat is vital and important. On the contrary, Real nevvs is rarely discussed, and if it is it is brief.

Men fear death as children fear to go in the dark; and as that natural fear in children is increased by tales, so is the other.

Reply:I agree with LISA %26amp; MAVEN... Couldn't believe that oh yeah "breaking news" Jenna Bush got engaged. The same thing happened when Paris Hilton went back to jail ALL the coverage was about her (I like her by the way, that's my dirty little secret) anyway, media was talking all about Paris Hilton and said, "While we wait for Paris Hilton to come out of her house, let's check with Joe Smith on the latest on Iraq, 2 soldiers killed today", and this was on MSNBC it wasn't a local channel or anything, this was nation wide!
Reply:America is a sick nation. Over 450 people have been killed, but the home page of yahoo boasts about the president's daughter's engagement. And then you read the article about Peru's quake and someone has the balls to claim that at least ONE American was killed. One. Out of 450. This country has NO compassion. And at the end of the article is there a link for where to donate money to help the victims? No. How about hotlines to find out if your family or friends in Peru are okay? No. Nothing. What makes me so angry is that things like Sept 11th and Hurricane Katrina get so much attention and aid, but things like the massive tsunami in Indonesia killing a quarter million people get a fraction of the attention. But hey, let's celebrate -- Jenna Bush is engaged! Hell ya!!
Reply:Sucks to live in an earth quake prone area.
