"The frequency of major earthquakes has increased about 20 times?

what it was on an average during the two thousand years before 1914." Survival into a New Earth...

Luke 21:11 uses the phrase "and there will be great earthquakes,…"

Jesus did not detail what constitutes a great earthquake. He simply stated that there will be great earthquakes and these will be in one place after another.

Seismology is a new science with the first seismograph invented in 1880. For this reason accurate records of earthquakes measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale have only become possible since then. Accurate and complete seismological records are now readily obtainable. http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/eqlists/eqstat... (July 2005) provided a list of earthquakes for this period resulting in over 1000 deaths. From 1902 to 2001

Where is your proof to dispute this?

The U.S. Geological Survey estimates that large earthquakes occur about once a year. Smaller earthquakes, only magnitude 2 earthquakes, occur several hundred times a day www.encyclopedia.com stated 1 January 2005

"The frequency of major earthquakes has increased about 20 times?
Sweetie- they will miss it.

But, yes- they are increasing in magnitude and frequency.
Reply:It never fails to amaze me how all these fundies just try to reach to make anything fit their little fairy tale book. It's kind of comical.
Reply:Astonishing.

Where are you getting your figures for prior to 1935, when the Richter scale was invented? Did earthquakes measure 7.5 'thingies' prior to then?

And the first seismograph was invented in the 2nd century, in China.

It's hard to dispute your facts when they're so illogically laid out, and indeed seem to peter out mid-paragraph from wherever you copypastaed them.
Reply:There's nothing supernatural about earthquakes.

Joshua commanded the sun to stop and the sun doesn't even move.
Reply:The old gal she is a changing really nothing to worry about though, unless you live in a earthquake zone or fault.
Reply:So you're saying there's no possible natural explanation?
Reply:I can assure you that the frequency of earthquakes during the formation of the Appalachian or Rocky Mountain ranges was much higher than it is today.

Although, since many of you Christians think the Earth is only 6000 years old, Platetechtonics probably doesn't compute.
Reply:Since as you pointed out "Seismology is a new science with the first seismograph invented in 1880." how in the world can you then state that "The frequency of major earthquakes has increased about 20 times what it was on an average during the two thousand years before 1914." without being so embarrassed at your own inanity that you turn red, run out of the room and hide in your closet out of shame?

Holy crap, you didn't even read the entire article did you. It contradicts your main point and you didn't even notice. I recommend you stick to nursing and leave geology to the literate.
Reply:Makes you think doesnt it? Last days!
Reply:Actually, that same page links to this page:

Which states:

We continue to be asked by many people throughout the world if earthquakes are on the increase. Although it may seem that we are having more earthquakes, earthquakes of magnitude 7.0 or greater have remained fairly constant.

A partial explanation may lie in the fact that in the last twenty years, we have definitely had an increase in the number of earthquakes we have been able to locate each year. This is because of the tremendous increase in the number of seismograph stations in the world and the many improvements in global communications. In 1931, there were about 350 stations operating in the world; today, there are more than 8,000 stations and the data now comes in rapidly from these stations by electronic mail, internet and satellite. This increase in the number of stations and the more timely receipt of data has allowed us and other seismological centers to locate earthquakes more rapidly and to locate many small earthquakes which were undetected in earlier years. The NEIC now locates about 20,000 earthquakes each year or approximately 50 per day. Also, because of the improvements in communications and the increased interest in the environment and natural disasters, the public now learns about more earthquakes.

According to long-term records (since about 1900), we expect about 17 major earthquakes (7.0 - 7.9) and one great earthquake (8.0 or above) in any given year.
Reply:The frequency has not increased, what has increased is our ability to be more aware due to advances in media coverage.

You know these things, it' a little difficult to grasp, they're called plate tectonics?
Reply:Didn't you even read the "Are Earthquakes Really on the Increase?" page that was linked in your own link?
Reply:It seems like, as the number of monitoring stations increase... we monitor more earthquakes...it's like speeding cameras, the more there are, the more people get caught... doesn't mean the others weren't speeding before, just that they get noticed more. The important bit is that the number of major earthquakes stays the same... regardless, so there's no increase :)

Btw...you're a BIT out of your league with the sciency stuff... trust me. It's not even your sport... and most likely not your country...

edit: do you have an earthquake fetish?
